Throughout history, men and women have left bread crumb trails to success and helped keep us on course with their momentary snapshots in time. These quotes, often during tough or challenging times, are the mile markers and road signs that remind us to carry on in adversity and to not give up.
Here are a few of the reminders from sages past and present that are especially pertinent and relevant to our journey in 2021.
“The pessimist complains about the wind. The optimist expects it to change. The leader adjusts the sails.” ~John Maxwell
Ah, yes, it’s all about perspective. Adjustment, adaptation and acclimation are all keys. No one has escaped the impact of the events of the past year. For some, it has been more devastating than others, but many have adjusted the sails and thrived.
What about you? Have you adjusted yet? Are you still waiting for the wind to change or just complaining?
There is still time to adjust to the changing tide and become a champion in 2021. Stop complaining, and don’t wait for things to get back to normal. There’s no turning back, so adjust your sails, catch the fresh wind and become the winner God designed you to be.
“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” ~Walt Disney
Are you getting ready to get ready? Are you standing on the shore waiting for your ship to come in? Already given up on your New Year’s resolutions?
Walt had it right, and it’s time to take the first step to get out of the muck and the mire and press on toward the prize. Good things are ahead, and your victory is on the other side of fear!
What’s holding you back? Is it fear? Is it determination? Is it something else? Dig deep and find out what it is, then step out and make it happen! Often, that first step is the toughest and the hardest, so do it, scared!
In times like these, it helps to recall that there have always been times like these. ~Paul Harvey.
Recently, someone told me they couldn’t get their business off the ground “…because of the virus”. She couldn’t get out, go to church, prospect properly and find clients for her new business. I asked her how the other couple hundred people in her business were being successful.
“They don’t live where I do,” she said. “It different there than it is here.”
This lady needs a different mindset. You see, there will always be a downturn in the economy, a death in the family, a job loss, a disaster (hurricane, tornado, fire, flood etc.), change in political policies or something else that will affect your income, your bills, your business and your life in general.
How you respond is the key. As Paul Harvey said: There have always been times like these (world wars, 9/11, Challenger explosion, Y2K, 2008 housing downturn, Katrina, Maria, California fires etc.). Get up off the floor, make a plan and decide — like Walt Disney — that when that downturn shows up on your doorstep, you just aren’t going to participate.
“A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes.” – Mark Twain.
Now, ain’t that some truth? Especially in 2021? You need only look as far as social media today to find the lies and deceit. If you want to discern truth, get back to the basics. Tune out the loud cacophony like those clanging symbols spreading a little dab or truth mixed with a large amount of falsity.
The lie that spreads “halfway around the world” often becomes “truth” when it finds its way back to us. But where there is no standard, where there is no tether to principle and sound doctrine, the truth becomes just another story that is lost in the crowd.
Smokey the Bear was actually right: You can prevent those lies that turn into a wildfire. Stop them in their tracks.
Someday is a disease that will take your dreams to the grave with you ~Tim Ferriss.
Have you ever noticed? Someday never comes, does it?
- Someday, I’m going to start my own business.
- Someday, my ship will come in, and I’ll be rich.
- Someday, I’ll start saving money.
- Someday, I’m going to face my fears.
- Someday, I’ll forgive and forget.
- Someday…
It’s easy to believe the lie that Someday is coming because we all believe in fairy tales. In reality, though, Someday is an empty hope and an alternate reality that exists in our mind and brings false expectations and unfulfilled promises.
Tomorrow and yesterday are cousins who have seven brothers and sisters, but Someday is a lonely child who has no relatives.
Indeed, there are seven days in the week. Someday isn’t one of them. So let go of Someday, seize the day and begin to live your life to the fullest.
This is good. Glad to see you are writing again. I saw there was one yesterday so I’ll go read that one too.
