Got a big goal this year? Haven’t started the journey yet?

Maybe it’s time to take the plunge. Stop getting ready to get ready!

Whether it’s business, personal, health, finances, spiritual or emotional well-being, or relationships, maybe it’s time to do the hard thing. Or do something!

In other words, it’s time to stop getting ready to get ready. Yes, you have…

  • Gathered all the information. Maybe too much information? Learn a little, do a little.
  • Listed all the options. Options are only ideas. Make a decision because you can act on a decision. You can’t act on an option.
  • Figured out all the reasons it won’t work. Have you considered all the reasons it will work?
  • Considered what other people would say. Why does it matter to you what they think? Live your life, not theirs.
  • Procrastinated and procrastinated. It only takes five minutes to take the first step and get started.

If a business prints business cards, builds a website, orders or produces products, or acquires equipment, it is getting ready to get ready. It still needs to pull the trigger to open the doors, have conversations with potential customers and execute marketing.

You may have a plan, a goal, or an idea for 2023. That’s great. Have you started yet? Or are you getting ready to get ready?

Here’s an outline that may help you.

  • What is your most important goal for 2023?
  • Make the plan.
  • Write it down. You may forget, but paper never forgets.
  • Give yourself deadlines along the way. I call them mile markers, little things along the way that you can measure success. If there is no deadline, it’s not real.
  • Who or what can help you attain your goal? This is important. It reinforces that you are not alone and provides accountability.
  • What is your wisest next step?
  • And when will you take that step?

Sometimes it’s as simple as that — it’s not rocket science. Dave Ramsey says that winning with finances is 20% head knowledge and 80% behavior. Those numbers are valid in life, health, relationships, and business. In other words, you may know what to do, but getting yourself in gear and taking the first step may be holding you back.

The last two questions above will help with your timeline for success. So start with the small things — like the first thing. Make the plan, and stick to it. And get out of the rut!
