“God has a university. It’s a small school; few enroll, and even fewer graduate.” ~Gene Edwards.
Life teaches you a lot. Now, what you learn from it is another story. Doors close, others open, people come in and out of your life, and circumstances change. But you can start fresh every day because God’s mercies are new every morning.
Every six months, I take some time to review what I’ve learned in the previous 180 days. Here are some valuable things I’ve learned — or re-learned — during the first half of 2022.
- Trust your instincts. When your instincts nudge you, pay attention. You don’t need another opinion if you and God agree.
- Find your people. Wherever you are in life, your people are quite possibly the most important thing you can do to ensure your success — personally and professionally. You can take our course to learn more.
- Busyness is overrated. Focus on one thing at a time. If you chase two rabbits, you won’t catch either one.
- No one is going to do it for you, so stop waiting.
- It is never too late, so get started. It may seem like the 11th hour but hold onto your fork. The best is yet to come.
- Detours are inevitable. How you respond to detours will determine your future. Like your financial emergency fund, be sure to have life stored up in reserve.
- Playing in your sweet spot is sweet.
- Getting rid of old habits and shiny objects is challenging but essential.
- Life is all about perspective. You choose to see the glass as half-empty or half-full.
- Just make the decision, dangit. No decision is a decision. Done is better than perfect and baby steps are better than stuck.
- People don’t always do what they say they will. Nonetheless, it has reminded me that my word is important and that I must do what I say.
- Sometimes it’s not circumstances that disrupt your life. It’s the people. Establish your boundaries and stick to them.
- Principle trumps ramifications. Do what’s right.
- I’m learning there are fewer hills to die on, but those hills are more critical now than last year.
- I don’t like being on the journey alone. But it’s critical to have the right people in the right place at the right time.
- It’s time to stop doing what you’re not good at. To stop that, delegate some things, and delete some.
- It’s okay to say no. Moreover, I should say “no” more than “yes”.
- Common sense is not so common these days.
- Slow down — way down! Everything is not on fire.
- Whatever happened to old-fashioned and old-school values? It’s okay to say thank you, open the door for ladies and respect other people. Still.
- What do you want your eulogy to say? I plan to be around for a long time, but I’ve been thinking about this because it impacts what I do today.
- Go where the peace is. It worked then and works now.
What have you learned this year? Today more than ever, it’s a good thing to pause, evaluate and consider how it applies to your life.
