It’s time to start talking to yourself

When was the last time you said something nice? About yourself? To yourself?

Think about this: You’ll never talk to anyone as much as you talk to yourself, so make sure your words are positive and encouraging.

We believe many lies about ourselves. In fact, we tell ourselves lies all too often. Over the years, we’ve heard so many lies that have become ingrained in our minds and are part of our daily limitations and comfort zones.

Would you like to change that? It’s not the easiest thing to do, and it takes practice — and consistency. Here are some things you can say to yourself every day. Find five affirmations from the list below and write them on Post-it notes. Place them strategically, like your bathroom mirror, car dashboard, notebook or Bible, computer monitor, milk jug in your refrigerator, or some other place you will see them often.

Then, when you see it, say it out loud! (Sure, you can wait until no one’s around.)

Here’s your list. Pick at least five and start the turnaround today.

  • I can do it!
  • God is with me.
  • I am a winner.
  • Today is my day!
  • I am good enough.
  • Everything is going to be okay.
  • I can make a difference.
  • I will live in abundance.
  • No one can stand in my way.
  • I am more than a conqueror in Christ.
  • No weapon formed against me shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17).
  • I am in charge of my life.
  • I am free to make decisions today.
  • From this moment, I can do anything and go anywhere I want.
  • I matter.
  • God woke me up this morning for a purpose.
  • I am enough.
  • It doesn’t matter what other people think. I know what God thinks.
  • I know I can do all things because God is going before me today.
  • Today, I choose peace and happiness.
  • If God is for me, it doesn’t matter who’s against me.
  • Today, I choose to go through.
  • Note to self: I am going to make you so proud!
  • Today, I choose to be decisive.
  • My mistakes do not define me. My dreams will.
  • Today, I choose to be a blessing.
  • With God, I don’t need a second opinion.
  • Today, I choose to find someone to help.
  • It’s not too late!
  • I’m not too young/too old.
  • I am loved.
  • Life will get better every day this week!
  • I am qualified.
  • I am going to make time for __________.
It’s time for a change: Stop listening to yourself and start talking to yourself — positive and encouraging thoughts.
