It’s the most wonderful time of the year. And it’s less than three months away.

Do you have plans for Christmas? Stores have been dressed up with the latest holiday decorations for months now. But we’re here for you even if you feel unprepared and haven’t thought one iota about gifts.

Take the stress off and make some memorable plans now. Here’s a quick way to get a head start.

Don’t delay. You still have time to be ahead of the curve. But time is of the essence.
Make your list! Yes, it sounds simple, but could you write a list of everyone you want to buy for this Christmas? Start with immediate family, then extended family. Check it twice: Include friends, pastors, teachers, co-workers, neighbors, and members of Your Fab 5.

Let’s talk money. Now that you have a complete list go through each name and assign a dollar value that will help to establish your Christmas budget. Don’t compare what others are doing or may do, and don’t feel pressured to do something you’ll regret come January.

And we’ve made it easy this year with a spreadsheet to make your planning super easy. Bridget of South Texas is the brilliant mind behind this spreadsheet, and she’s on my list now for sharing it. Download and personalize your spreadsheet.

Sticking to your budget is more about your values and peace of mind. Remember, you don’t have to keep up with the Joneses (they’re broke anyway), and you can be creative with your gifts and genuine in your approach. And take it easy on your bank account.

One more thing to consider. Shop early, order early. Christmas doesn’t need to be an emergency, so save yourself from the crisis or last-minute chaos.

More important reminders. You can be ready, even when others are not!

  • Schedule your holidays. When will you decorate, when will you shop, what time is Christmas dinner? You can do it! Lower the stress and tension.
  • Plan Christmas cards. If you’re buying, buy early. If you’re personalizing, shop now and order stamps.
  • Decorations. Take inventory now. Put December 26 on your calendar to shop for 2024.
  • Plan now for DIY gifts — ingredients, materials, packaging.
  • Holiday meals. Don’t wait until the last minute. You can start your list now.
  • Gift-wrapping. Get tape, ribbon, etc. now so you don’t overbuy in December.
  • Plan for the unexpected. Find something you really like. Buy an extra one or two, just in case.

Download our Gift-Giving Guide for 2023. It includes some unique and creative gift selection methods that are easy on the pocketbook and will put a smile on your face – and theirs – on Christmas Day. And be sure to get your spreadsheet for nifty tracking.
