“Stupid is built into the plan.” ~Pastor Randy Harvey.
At some point in your life, you realize that everything doesn’t depend on you. The sun will rise tomorrow, and you don’t have to feed the sparrows. Just so you know – all that is handled. The world was operating smoothly when you were born, and it will probably continue once you’re gone.
That’s good to know and remember because we fail and do stupid things. Come on, you know it’s true. But let’s not dwell on that, let’s focus forward and recognize that the plan for our lives includes setbacks.
As Pastor Randy says, “Stupid is built into the plan.” Wow, what a relief because I’ve done a few stupid things over the years! You?
Discouragement and failure are real, too. The road to success is littered with failure and people who have given up or done stupid things. So, if you don’t give up, you will be in elite company.
Unfortunately, life’s journey is not always a straight line, but God’s GPS will get you to your destination nonetheless.
The trip is not always the shortest distance between two points. Often, there are detours or life demands that we take another course. In fact, the curves, dips, switchbacks, ups, and downs along the way actually paint your life with color. The pauses or even roadside stops along the journey leave those God moments indelibly varnished and sealed on your heart.
Yes, God causes — or allows — those flat tires along life’s journey, sometimes to catch our attention or build character. He lets us get lost along the way, then shows us something we’ve never seen — or at least never noticed — before. And it changes us. Sometimes, it alters our journey even. Or maybe it just causes a change in perspective or viewpoint.
God speaks when we take those seemingly side jaunts or pause along the journey.
And you get to be stupid. As Harvey reminds us, stupid is built into the plan.
Guess what? Detours, potholes, miscalculations, and failures are common. Don’t believe me? Check out these examples.
Now, don’t use this as a license to try stupid things or be lazy, but it helps to know that God has considered our shortcomings in the overall plan. They are built into the game plan and the route.
So go back to that thing you stopped or gave up on, pick up the pieces, and go on. Don’t allow stupid, failures, and detours—much less other people’s opinions or your shortcomings—to stop you cold.
Yeah, I know. I can’t possibly know your situation or your obstacles, but we’ve all done those crazy things or been derailed or sidelined. What I do know, however, is that none of that matters regarding your being stuck—not one shred of it.
As Ken Coleman says, “You aren’t stuck. You’ve just decided to stay where you are.” So, decide again and get moving.
There’s hope! ⬇️
Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up. ~Thomas Edison
