Fill ‘er up please!

We need to deprogram ourselves. I know for sure that you can’t give what you don’t have. If you allow yourself to be depleted to the point where your emotional and spiritual tank is empty and you’re running on fumes of habit, everybody loses. Especially you. ~Oprah Winfrey

It’s time to refill your tank! Just like your car or lawnmower, when the needle points to empty, you have to fill ‘er up. Too often, though, we gamble and run on fumes, and that limits our effectiveness. In this day and age, that’s a bigger gamble than going to Vegas with only $1. Nonetheless, if you don’t regularly pull into the station to refuel and refire, you’re setting yourself up for burnout, depression, loneliness, breakdown and despair. It won’t be a pretty picture. Just like your car, you can stall out or even damage yourself if you run on empty for too long!

What fills you up? Good music? Beautiful scenery? A good book? Being around family or friends? A good night’s sleep? Make the time for it! And, this is more than just a side note: If you’re living a life without God, you’re treading on dangerously thin ice. You can put some regular gas in your tank with some of the items above, but frankly, only God can fill some of the high octane voids in your life. Don’t ignore the warning and don’t try to see how far you can go after the light comes on; you’ll find yourself on the side of the road. Obviously, you function better when you’re full, and you’re also in a better position to help others too. Schedule the time and be sure you’re not running on an empty tank!

For he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. ~Psalm 107:9.
