Grateful for the little things

When you are grateful, fear disappears, and abundance appears. ~Tony Robbins.

In today’s generation, we have forgotten how to be grateful, thankful, and gratified, much less satisfied and fulfilled. The problem is no longer keeping up with the Joneses but knocking them down so you can overtake them. A pastor friend once told me that “blowing out another man’s candle won’t make yours shine any brighter.” And scripture mentions this in 2 Corinthians 10:12: “…but when they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are without understanding.”

Life is a matter of being thankful for the little things. But you’ll lose sight of those little things if you’re busy comparing yourself to your neighbor. When you are grateful, your perspective changes. When you are thankful, your world changes. But more importantly, your view of yourself changes when you are grateful.

Suddenly, you not only have “enough” but plenty. Suddenly, you aren’t in want, but you are in abundance. Suddenly, you aren’t sad but happy. Suddenly, you aren’t living in sadness but in joy. And then, you realize what so many have concluded over the years: Riches, assets, and things don’t provide your happiness.

Make a list of people or items for which you are grateful. Post it in a prominent place. Review it every morning and remind yourself of the little things you are thankful for in your life. Be consumed with those things, be grateful for those things. Then, ever so suddenly, those seemingly small things will mushroom into big things and multiply in your life.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. ~Philippians 4:6.
