The key to success in life and the key to understanding the road to victory for you lie in the grasping of that phrase: “It’s not about you.” The best-laid plans won’t get you there if you aren’t thinking and looking outwardly. The best ideas are those designed to improve the lives of others. Your most significant rewards come when your actions benefit someone else. Human nature asks the question “…what’s in it for me?”, but today’s world teaches you to gimme, gimme, gimme and “get as much as you can”. But it’s not about you. You — and I — are not the center of the universe, but we are part of the bigger story, as John Eldredge would say. We were born into the story that began long ago and, guess what, the story will continue once we are gone. Which means — you got it — it’s not about you. In a world that believes it is owed something and deserves everything, you stand out when you give anything and contribute everything. Putting someone else first doesn’t mean you are second. It merely means you have redefined success and have chosen Kingdom principles rather the principles of the “get it now” world. In a world consumed with selfies, turn the lens around. You may be surprised by what you see.
