Kickstarter: Look for the man with no feet

I cried because I had no shoes, then I met a man who had no feet.

Helen Keller.

It’s easy to get caught up and wobble along in your own problems. Even if you don’t drown in a pity party, you can become isolated and discouraged, which can lead to emotional and psychological devastation.

But, as I’ve often said, it’s all about perspective.

Want to solve your own problems? Want to dig yourself out of a hole? Want to improve your own life?

Help someone else with their problems. It’s a sure-fire way to gain a new perspective, overcome your own life’s issues, and take a step forward and upward.

Zig Ziglar says: “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.

In my capacity as chaplain, I meet all types of people, with all types of backgrounds who are facing all types of challenges and dilemmas. From domestic issues to stress and financial matters to more serious subjects regarding anger, relationships and depression, it’s clear the enemy of our soul is alive and well in today’s crazy world.

Almost daily, I am reminded that — despite my own problems and issues — I really have no problems. As I’ve often said, it’s all about perspective. And it’s that perspective that can help lead you to an overcoming life.

As I help others walk through their lives, two things become evident.

  1. My problems aren’t nearly what I thought they were. Sure, everyone has challenges and life matters to work on, but there is always someone around you who is facing more serious matters.
  2. Helping someone else provides me with that motivation and insight to figure out my own road map forward. Plus, it turns my BIG problem into much smaller matters to deal with.

Turn your thinking outward. Ask someone how they’re doing, then listen. Not everyone who says “life is great” is actually shooting straight. Generally, people won’t admit they’re facing a hurdle today because of pride, embarrassment or fear of what you may think.

If you turn your antenna toward your co-workers or others in your life, you’ll find someone who needs help getting through a particular situation or through the day. It may take you an hour or it may take multiple visits, phone calls or texts, but take the first step today.

When you look for the man who has no feet, you’ll find that your old worn shoes work just fine.
