Words can be empty, but a word can be powerful!

What’s Your Word for 2025?
Don’t have one? Think it’s overrated, trivial, or not worth the effort? Stick with me for a moment.

Choosing a word or phrase for the year can be a powerful way to guide your decisions, actions, and goals. It helps you stay focused, overcome distractions, and build confidence. Think of it as your personal compass, steering you through the highs and lows of the year.

Research supports the idea that words hold power. A study by Dr. Andrew Newberg and Mark Robert Waldman shows that positive words can influence the brain’s frontal lobes, enhance productivity, and even shift how we see ourselves and others. Remarkably, a single word can impact the expression of genes tied to physical and emotional stress.

It’s no wonder the Bible emphasizes the importance of our words:

  • “Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.” ~Proverbs 18:21 (The Message)
  • “What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.” ~Matthew 15:11 (NIV)
  • “So also the tongue is a small part of the body, and yet it boasts of great things. See how great a forest is set aflame by such a small fire!”~James 3:5 (NIV)

Can One Word Make a Difference?

Absolutely. But it works best when your word aligns with your identity and values.

In 2024, my word was FULFILL. I applied it to my decisions, goals, and daily actions, aiming to make meaningful changes in life, relationships, finances, business, and health. Did I follow it perfectly? Of course not. But having that word as my touchstone kept me moving forward, even when I stumbled.

Here’s the thing: It’s not about perfection. It’s about progress. My word helped me show up more intentionally — and I’m better today because of it.

Why You Should Choose a Word for 2025

It Keeps You on Track.
Distractions happen. Your word serves as a reminder of what matters most. Post it where you’ll see it often — your desk, car, wallet, Bible, or refrigerator.

It Builds Confidence.
Turn your word into daily affirmations. Speak it aloud and let it shape your mindset. For example, Today, I will be intentional (grateful, courageous, creative, and focused).

It Removes Limits.
When doubts or naysayers show up—and they will—your word will remind you of your purpose and strengthen your resolve.

It Simplifies Tough Decisions.
A word aligned with your identity and values makes decision-making easier. It helps you respond thoughtfully rather than react emotionally.

My Word for 2025: LEGACY.

Legacy means creating a long-lasting impact — something far more meaningful than material wealth. It’s about the values we instill, the lives we touch, and the difference we make. My word for 2025 will challenge me to live with intention and make choices that resonate beyond the moment.
