What is God trying to say to us?

Are you listening yet? Have you stopped in your tracks? God sure is working overtime trying to get our attention in 2020.

Take a look at the year so far — the most extended and crazy-packed year on record. God doesn’t cause chaos and confusion, but he certainly speaks in the midst of it. If you aren’t convinced God is wanting to speak to us, consider these things:

• The world has had a collective Damascus Road experience. In many ways, we’ve all been knocked to the ground like Saul and, arguably, we aren’t seeing very clearly now. Saul’s three days as a blind man must have seemed like an eternity too. Read Acts 9 and see if you notice any similarities.
• Our world certainly has a lack of peace and plenty of uneasiness. Sure, you may have a certain level of stability, but it’s hard to maintain.
• Have you noticed the financial storm? I don’t care how good your finances are, you’ve likely had to make adjustments. We’ll have more soon on the impending financial pandemic.
• If you’re like many others, your friendships and relationships have been challenged and even upended.
• How’s your comfort zone these days? One way or the other, you’ve likely been pushed outside those limits in recent months and have adopted new approaches and learned new habits.
• Your plans and direction: Your job, plans for new home/car, school, 401k? How’s that going for you, anyway? You know what they say about the best-laid plans, right?
• Spiritual sensitivity. Most everyone has been drawn more toward God in some way or another.

Throughout scripture, we are told to cast our anxiety and troubles on Him and to pursue peace, a peace that passes all understanding. 1 Corinthians 14:33; 2 Thessalonians 3:16; Psalm 29:11; Philippians 4:6-7.

But if God is trying to get our attention and say something, what is He saying? Moreover, is He still trying to get our attention before He shares the message?

Either way, it’s time to take notice because the world is being shaken repeatedly in this unusual season. What’s being shaken? You can reference that in the above list, but the better question is what will be left after the shaking?

“See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape who turn away from Him who warns from heaven.” ~Hebrews 12:25.

So the best advice in this shaking season:

• Don’t fall in line with the crowd. If you do, you may find yourself in the wrong line.
• Stop and take inventory of your life, health, finances, family and future.
• Where is the most significant fire in your life? It may not be huge or out of control, but take note and start there. That may be where God is drawing your attention.
• Listen for the whisper, or the still small voice because you won’t hear His message in all the noise and chaos (Read 1 Kings 19).
• Remember, God may be giving you different instructions than your neighbor, so take heed.
• When you hear the message, take action. Noah built an ark when others thought he was crazy.
• Pray and seek God.
• Above all, though, listen. This isn’t a time to throw in your opinion and make your point, especially with God.

The shaking has begun and God is trying to get our attention. It’s incumbent on each of us to find out what He may be saying to us.
