If your ship doesn’t come in, swim out to meet it!
Jonathan Winters.
Wake up America!
For years, your parents and grandparents have told you about their hard times in The Great Depression, World War II, the ’60s and ’70s and even 9/11. How they had to help themselves, change their approach, take care of their family and make it on their own.
Now, it’s your turn. The time has come for you to help yourself, stand up for your values and take responsibility for your position in life. Think about it!
- When someone can earn more on unemployment than he makes on his job, something’s wrong.
- When the top of every newscast points fingers to cast blame on someone else, something is wrong.
- When government leaders are more concerned about whether a church gathers in its own parking lot on Easter Sunday than how many people are filling Wal Mart stores, something is very wrong.
Dave Ramsey has suggested you keep six months of money on hand. Leading medical doctors have told us for years Americans aren’t living healthy, and we’re now teaching or allowing our kids to live even worse. Many churches and Christians have become apathetic and aloof. But we want to blame someone else and complain about the conditions in the country.
And, unfortunately, our attitudes and viewpoint of life stinks.
Friends, we’ve been sold a bill of goods. Our government will — and should — always be there to help and defend us “against all enemies, foreign and domestic”, and come running when we get in trouble. But, somewhere along the way, we have become complicit with society’s attempts to seep into and permeate our lives. Indeed, we have handed over the reins of our horse and allowed others to determine the direction of our lives. Nowadays, the government and society, in general, have trained all of us to be dependent, blame someone else and not take care of ourselves.
America, we have become co-dependent. Leaders have led us down the primrose path. Our society and system are designed to dominate and regulate our daily lives.
CO-DEPENDENCY: A psychological condition or a relationship in which a person is controlled or manipulated by another who is affected with a pathological condition (such as an addiction).
Merriam Webster.
Now, don’t mistake what I’m saying here. I’m not inciting rebellion, disobedience or insurrection. But, it is time for a revolution in our hearts and minds. The time is now to reassess, reevaluate and modify our thought process. Depending on where you are, it may even require radical adjustment.
Frankly, we can not keep floating down the same river, past the same treelines, picking up scraps along the way and hoping things work out around the next bend. Guess what, it isn’t working out! And, now during these unprecedented times, we’re getting a look behind the scenes, a peek behind the veil, so to speak.
What will break the cycle? What will change the course? What will bring us front and center with reality?
Look hard, look deep, look closely.
Conspiracy theories aside — and those can run rampant in both directions — it’s clear we have been trained to be dependent. We have become very disciplined at the game and some have graduated to leadership roles. While it’s been a slow erosion process, we have been led to the water and told when to drink, only to wait until someone hands the water to us. We are a co-dependent nation.
It’s time to call it for what it is and lead Americans to freedom, true freedom. Break free from the tyranny of a society that requires you to kowtow to ideals and values that you would never have settled for growing up, much less even a decade ago.
Yes, you need help from others. Yes, you can depend on assistance when you’re down. Yes, you can use a lifeline. But the message here is that you must aggressively take charge. You must help yourself. You must do what you can do. You must watch out for your family. You must prepare for your survival.
What can you do? What should you do?
Identify, admit and understand your state of mind, your status of co-dependency and plan your roadmap out. Just as experts advocate leaving a co-dependent relationship — especially an abusive one — so too it’s critical for you to move forward in separating yourself from your dependency and fault-finding. They have become all-too-familiar and are a fall-back in times of trouble and crisis.
There are several areas you must become dependent and break loose from the co-dependent cycles. We’ll address these areas more deeply in the coming days but begin now to pinpoint the danger signs and areas you may have stumbled into, even unwittingly.
- FINANCES. Give and save. Yes, it’s possible! Regardless of the amount of your paycheck, you can put aside something every week, every month. Soon, it will snowball and you will have that six-month rainy day fund Dave Ramsey recommends.
- HEALTH. This one’s a biggie. Yes, some people have health conditions that are not of their own making. There are hereditary circumstances, things handed down or come as a result of environment or job situation. But one of the leading targets of the coronavirus is people with underlying conditions, many of which can be addressed. It doesn’t have to be this way.
- CHURCH AND FAITH. The Bible strongly commands we are not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together, but you don’t need a pastor or priest to fellowship with God. Just because the government demands social distancing, it hasn’t outlawed your relationship with God.
- ATTITUDE. This one is obvious. Your attitude is absolutely your choice, 100%. This is one area you should never trust to anyone else. Be a master over your attitude and you can master the other areas of your life.
It’s time to wake up and take the bull by the horns. Don’t wait for life to happen, you happen to life!
